Eat Healthy? In College?

I have decided to focus this blog on the “how” and the “why” of eating healthy as a college student living in dorms. The year spent as a college freshman is a transition period for many, and the “freshman 15” is rarely avoided. My goal is to change my eating habits, and influence others to as well.

My data collection throughout this blog will be through what my friends and I are eating, and how we feel waking up and right before bed. I will be explaining what the body needs to keep energy levels and mood levels up throughout the day. I also will emphasize alternatives for unhealthy options.

For my content I will take photos of snacks and meals. I will be filming myself at the dining hall as well as audio record how I feel after eating healthy throughout the entire day.

Also, I will be utilizing my friends who have different taste palettes. If you follow the blog, you should feel well informed with many a multitude of options of how to be healthy in the dining halls.

For the poster I will be creating, I will make a poster that provides substitutes for certain foods that are often offered in the dining hall. For example, instead of using the waffle machine, you can make two pieces of whole grain toast. It would result in the same fullness – but less carb and sugar intake. Or instead of a greasy cheeseburger, you could opt for a grilled chicken burger, or a burger with a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. The purpose of the poster is to be informative on healthier options. My inspiration comes from a poster like this, where there are two options.

For my final assignment – the video – I plan on taking small video clips of my meals everyday. Also there will be some of me in the dining hall. There I will explain how to change your thought process when deciding how to fuel yourself. The purpose of the video will be to sum up the entire blog. The inspiration comes from here, like a bunch of small clips of food options. I hope to make it short and easy to follow and copy.

The overall blog was inspired by this. I hope students living in the dorms (or even out of the dorms!) can benefit from the purpose of this blog!
